Right next door to my home in West Jordan lives a red-headed friend of mine named Guy. One day Carson and I went over to Guy's house to see what he was up to. Guy informed us that he had to go run an errand real quick, but nobody else was home, so Carson and I were welcome to wait at his house for him. I expressed my concern that someone in his family might get home before him, and that Carson and I would have to awkwardly explain what we were doing in his house all alone. He informed us that there was nothing to worry about and that nobody should show up for a few hours.
Our minds at ease, Carson and I went into the basement where Guy kept his video games. We chose a relatively intense zombie-fighting game and decided that with nobody home we could turn the volume as loud as we pleased. The particular level we decided to play on had some loud rock music going on in the background, and Carson in particular was getting very into the game. He started screaming whenever anything would happen, which caused me to yell in response, and long story short there was a lot of violent noise going on down there.
As we approached the end of the level, the game was getting only crazier. The goal in sight, Carson started shouting at me to "RUN RUN RUN!" and I was yelling in determination to get my character to safety. Just then we see a figure swing around the corner by the stairs to enter Guy's basement.
We look and see Guy's dad, who happens to be a police officer, standing very tense.
In full uniform.
With his hand on his gun, and a very concerned look on his face.
We all freeze for a few seconds, unsure of what to do next. Guy's dad then relaxes and takes his hand off his firearm. Carson and I both started spewing out as fast as we could:
Carson: We were just playing a game!
Me: Guy said it was fine if we waited here for him!
Carson: We weren't actually killing anyone!
Guy's Dad: [Quietly] Yeah you guys are fine.
He then disappeared back up the stairs without another word. Carson and I quickly turned everything off and ran over to my house to wait for Guy to get home, when we told him how displeased we were with the information he gave us about when his family members would arrive.
I really wanted something more exciting to happen when he showed up, such as Carson reflexively tackling said cop, and getting tased.
ReplyDeleteHaha I don't know anybody who's reflex is to tackle cops when they see them... Run and hide if anything.
